The Blue ran about 590 cfs, just below the point of not going to do that anymore. It made for good fishing but challenging landing. Out of 14 fish hooked and fought, only 4 were brought to net. All four were beautiful wild brown trout 12-15 inches long. The real story though lies with the “ones that got away”…
Hooked and fought three monster fish, the first a rainbow that ate a size 16 flashback PT. She fought hard and was almost brought to the net twice before she got wise and headed for Gore Canyon. The second was a brown hooked in a pretty subtle lie next to the bank requiring some tough wading to be able to make a presentation. She ate a large (2.5 inch long) San Juan and proceeded to bolt upstream at what seemed like 100mph. On the way back down she stayed just out of net reach, but gave us a great look. This dance was repeated several times before the hook became unglued. I would estimate the size of both of those fish at around 22-25 inches. The third we hooked in a rifle and immediately used the fast water to its advantage and never looked back. She’s probably at Pumphouse by now.
Can’t wait for the water to come down again to get round two.
