We fished Deckers for ½ a day yesterday, below the town, but above Night-hawk. There were a few people on the river, but despite how nice the day was, it was no problem finding a good spot with a stretch of stream all to yourself. The weather was a typical Colorado fall beauty, with blue skies and a slight chill in the air whenever there was shade, and it was calm with barely a breeze. The water was flowing at about 75 c.f.s and the water tempatures were still warmer despite the cool evenings. The water was gin clear. We had a nice midge hatch at about 3pm and lasted for a good while. The effective patterns were a Jujube midge (size 22), Hillyard’s Gun Metal Black Beauty (size 22), and a chocolate Johnny Flash (size 22). The fish were hanging tight to the edges and in the transitional water and occasionally we would spot a few tucked tight in the rocks. Stealth is the key right now due to the lower and clear water.
