With the temps in the afternoons climbing into the mid 80's it doesn't exactly feel like fall yet. But the leaves on the trees are changing and the fish certainly seem to know that winter is on it's way.
Most of my time guiding has been split between the North Fork of the South Platte and our private section of the Blue River below Green Mountain Reservoir.
For a while the fishing on the Blue was lights out. But flows have come up over the last few days and made fishing a bit tough. There are plenty of fish around and lots of food, but at these elevated flows it can make reaching the fish a real challange.
Flows and the fishing have been far more consistant on the North Fork of the South Platte lately. I have spent some very nice days at Rowdy Trout Ranch recently. With the water temps dropping, the fish have been starting to congregate in the deeper pools. This means we are fishing fewer spots in a day but getting more hook ups from each place.

Terry hoists a nice rainbow caught on a guide trip at Rowdy Trout Ranch that was given to him as an anniversary gift.
With the high flows of the summer, everyone has been chomping at the bit for fall and our guiding schedule is filling up. If you would like to book a guide trip and experience this fine fall fishing, don't hesitate.
