The Yampa RIver is really starting to fish good! Lots of bugs on the water including golden stoneflies, caddis, and pale morning duns, the fish really seem to be keyed in on the PMD's and we are even seeing fish rising to the adults. However, the hot ticket right now is nymphing with PMD nymphs and emergers. The river is prime to float fish right now and also is in good shape for some aggressive wade fishing.
It has been getting hot up here! Try fishing early or late in the day.
A 9' 4-5 rod has you covered for the bulk of the trout fishing in this valley, a 9' 6 is ideal for casting large streamers when float fishing. Be sure to bring several 9' 4x leaders and some spare tippet in 3x-5x, you might need some 6x to fool the rainbows at the tail water.
