As the Animas flow recedes the flow on the San Juan rises making the fish spread out and begin looking up for a bigger meal. We are still waiting for our first rain of the summer which will trigger one of the greatest ant falls in the western U.S. Currentley the San Juan is running at 1000 cfs and should stay there for the remainder of the summer. Good midge fishing in the am near the dam for those of you who like open casting and reasonable wade fishing, wear your wool socks and fleece pants, 42 degrees is cold.
The Animas which runs through the middle of Durango is fishing well in the morning and evening. The flow is rapidly receding and will be unfloatable within a few days. If you are planning a trip to the Southwestern corner of Colorado and plan to fish the "Animal" bring your studs and staff, its pretty slick. Caddis and PMDs are on the menue.
