Rowdy Trout Ranch
Rowdy Trout Ranch is on Fire! I was lucky enough to guide two very enthusiastic young ladies at Rowdy yesterday, and had an amazing day on the watter. The North Fork of the South Platte is at a near perfect flow and the fish are looking up. We got to fish through good hatches of PMDs and Caddis and the ladies took advantage of the bugs by fishing dry flies to some large trout. Once the hatches settled down on the river we made our way to the ponds and the girls put on a clinic on catching big fish on hoppers.
With 2 fish landed over 23" and a host of fish over 18" landed, the day was nothing short of phenomenal.

Equipment:
A 9' 5 weight rod with a solid disc drag is the perfect set up for fishing the river and the ponds at rowdy. The guides can provide all the equipment that you need for a productive day on the water at Rowdy.
Fly Types:
Hoppers! The hoppers are getting thick in the banks now and the fish are waiting for them to splat on the water.
PMDs and Caddis are also drawing strikes on the surface.
When the surface activity slows down, San Juan Worms, Copper Johns, Phesant Tails, and Prince Nymphs will all draw strikes on fish holding in the deeper runs.
And if you really want to have some fun, a big streamer cast close to the bank and stripped out will draw brutal strikes from some of the bigger fish in the river.
