This past tuesday was an interesting day to say the least in Cheesman Canyon. Weather wise, we experienced rain, sleet, snow, fog and sun - all within a 6 hour period. When we arrived, there were 10 cars already in the parking lot. Normally this means that you have a long walk in front of you if you intend to find any solitude. There was however, not a soul fishing the lower river on this day. We focused on the family pool first, where there were lots of fish eating midge adults off the surface, and emergers just below the surface. There appeared to be some sporadic BWO activity mixed in as well, but the fish were definitely looking up. They were typically selective, and we struggled to hook-up.
As we worked our way up to the Jamboree Pool, we found more success sub-surface on Mercury Black Beauties, Rainbow Warriors, Double Header Golden Stones, and Zebra Midges.
The narrows and deeper plunge pools between the family pool and jamboree pool are full of good-sized fish that were also pretty cooperative.
