The Flies:

The custom fly selection you are about to order will consist of a dozen hand selected flies from the fly bins of Anglers All. These flies will be selected by an Anglers All staff member using the knowledge, research and experience of the collective Anglers All team based on the month you will be fishing the Arkansas. These selections will include nymphs, midges, dry flies and a streamer or two. Your package will include your ordered flies in a reusable Anglers All fly cup, as well as a list with names and descriptions of your flies. The dozen you will receive will not guarantee fish caught, but they are the flies we would bring to the river if we were to fish it with you!

The Forecast:
OK, you are about to get all dialed in on flies, but you will need a little more information on weather, flows and river access points, right? Check out our Fishing Report partners and friends at FlyCast River Forecast - CLICK HERE FOR RIVER REPORTS

The River:
The Arkansas river is a true Colorado classic and often considered a top 100 trout fishery in America. With its headwaters buried in the snow pack of the Sawatch and Mosquito Mountain ranges near Leadville Colorado this steep, rocky trout river flows southeast through Buena Vista, Browns Canyon, Salida, the Royal Gorge and into Pueblo Reservoir. Where it exits Pueblo Reservoir, a classic tailwater fishery can be found.

While the velocity and gradient of this river is high, it is mostly home to wild naturally reproducing Brown Trout, and a smaller population of Rainbow Trout and Snake River Cutthroats.

Success on this is river is often dictated by the right presentation rather than perfect fly selection. A nice brown will often rise to a perfectly presented attractor or terrestrial, even during a blue wing olive hatch. The Arkansas is a very diverse river with three distinct sections, and at any given time midges, caddis, stoneflies, hoppers and streamers can often produce great fish on varying sections of the river.

The public access on this river is outstanding. Covering the 100 miles of river from Leadville to Canon City you will find plenty of public access to both walk wade and float this river.

River Sections:
The "Upper Arkansas" section refers to the water from Leadville to Salida.

The "Lower Arkansas" section refers to the water from Salida to Canon City.

The "Arkansas Tailwater" section refers to the water below Pueblo Reservoir
