The Clouser Minnow Fly Tying Video

Spring is officially here! In addition to the excellent dry fly fishing, now is a great time to be throwing streamers. Plus, it won’t be long before we’re casting to big trout at ice-off on our favorite mountain lakes, or even bass fishing here in the Denver area. To celebrate, we’re tying up one of our favorite crossover patterns, the Clouser Minnow.

Our latest Fly Tying Fridays video features our own Davis James behind the vise. Davis is tying up the classic baitfish pattern, the Clouser Minnow. The Clouser must be one of the most versatile baitfish patterns in any angler’s fly box. Ask around here in the fly shop, and you’ll hear stories about trout, smallmouth, pike, redfish and more, all taken on a Clouser. Saltwater and freshwater, it’s hard to top this fly’s versatility and effectiveness.

Developed by Bob Clouser, this pattern can be tied in a variety of colors. We love fishing the Clouser in tan and white, brown and white, yellow and white, or even all black. But there are no rules here. One of the keys to this fly’s effectiveness is the heavy eye, which gives it a sharp, jigging action in the water.

In this video, Davis demonstrates how to tie the Clouser Minnow using tan and white bucktail. If you enjoy the video, please take a moment to like it, and subscribe to our YouTube Channel. Leave a comment below the video, and let us know what you think!
