Front Range High Country Fly Fishing Report | JULY - AUGUST 2021

Well, we finally made it. The magical season that every alpine addict anticipates annually: Colorado’s high country fly fishing season. And we say “magical” because the way the frozen tundra transforms into a thriving ecosystem every year is pure magic.

Our team has been more than fired up about the 2021 alpine fly fishing season. Rachel, Collin, Blake, Ryan, and Larkin are obsessed with exploring high elevation backcountry fisheries.

But as we all know the Southern Rockies can be unpredictable during the summer. You can be freezing in the morning, but burning up in the afternoon. Conditions change on a dime. Sometimes, it’s hard to know what to expect.

In this video, Media Manager Larkin Wilson sheds some light on the current fishing conditions in popular areas in Colorado’s Front Range - James Peak Wilderness, Indian Peaks Wilderness, Mount Evans Wilderness, and Rocky Mountain National Park. Larkin goes over road/entry conditions, the behavior of the trout in lakes along the Continental Divide, productive fly patterns & rigs, and more.
