Meet the Anglers All Denver Crew

The Anglers All Denver store is open, and we want you to meet some new crew members you will see at the new fly shop! Other than tying materials, the new fly shop on 6th Avenue is fully stocked and is now open seven days a week. If you’re in the neighborhood, please stop by and say hello!

We’ve got a friendly and knowledgeable crew, and we’d love for you to meet them. Here are some quick introductions to the faces you’ll see at our Denver shop…

Delaney:

How Did you Learn To Fly Fish?

I learned to fly fish starting with my grandfather. He bought me my first fly rod kit and taught me how to cast, tie knots, and all the basics. I remember spending hours casting to hula hoops in his backyard. My other resource was my best friend’s dad. He really helped me dial in techniques on the water with mending and reading water. All of what I know is from them and of course Jimmy Bags! (Jimmy “Bags” Juliana is our Littleton store manager).

What is your favorite species to catch on a fly?

My favorite species to catch would have to be brown trout or hiking up to a remote area for cutthroats. If I stay local my favorite without a doubt is walleye!

When you aren’t fishing, how do you spend your free time?

When I’m not on the water, you’ll find me on a trail mountain biking or at my desk tying up streamers!

If you could hop on a plane and go anywhere in the world to fly fish, where would you go?

A trip to Bolivia or the Amazon is my dream! Walking the jungle streams, sight fishing for golden dorado with big flies is by far the trip I think about the most!

What is your favorite product in the Denver store?

My favorite product in the store would probably have to be the Patagonia Swiftcurrent jacket! Or, most recently, the Orvis Helios D. I’ve been fishing the 9-foot, 7-weight lately, and am very impressed with the power and accuracy.

I was floating with a buddy in Montana and hooked by far my biggest brown. It was right next to a downed tree and managed to jump over and wrap itself around a branch. That was all she wrote, and the leader snapped. That one still haunts me to this day. I continue to think about driving all the way up there and throwing another big streamer to the same downed tree!

Kat:

How Did you Learn To Fly Fish?

Learning to fly fish was a lot of trial and error. Jeremy at Flies and Lies showed me how to set up a nymph rig, told me to tick the bottom, and add more weight if needed. The first year I really struggled with tangles and losing flies. But it all started coming together. Throwing a purple juju beatis really helped get fish in the net!

What is your favorite species to catch on a fly?

I love fishing for trout. Big ones, small ones, it’s always exciting. I do look forward to more saltwater trips. I’ve enjoyed learning to fish the surf in San Diego for Corvina. It’s a tough game. The fishery in San Diego is so unique. There’s nothing else like it. And bonus, there are lots of tacos too!

When you aren’t fishing, how do you spend your free time?

When I’m not fishing, I enjoy cooking steaks on the grill, tying flies, and deciding on the next place to Fish It All!

If you could hop on a plane and go anywhere in the world to fly fish, where would you go?

My ultimate fishing destination is Japan. Fishing is so highly revered in their culture. I’d love to experience the gorgeous scenery, colorful trout and the sushi!

Nora:

How Did you Learn To Fly Fish?

I grew up fishing in the Midwest and loved being on the water. I went through college and graduate school and worked in very demanding work settings in Division One sports medicine. I had zero time for hobbies. It wasn’t until I moved to Denver nearly nine years ago and started working from home for a health tech company, that I had the time to revisit the childhood passion. I taught myself with various resources and just got out there and fished as much as I could. Most of what I learned was through trial and error.

What is your favorite species to catch on a fly?

Brown trout are my favorite!

When you aren’t fishing, how do you spend your free time?

I spend my free time with my partner and our golden retriever. We enjoy living in the Capitol Hill neighborhood and you can find us running, riding bikes, trying new restaurants, and experiencing everything this neighborhood has to offer.

If you could hop on a plane and go anywhere in the world to fly fish, where would you go?

My first thought would be South America – Chilean Patagonia.

What is your favorite product in the Denver store?

I really like walking customers through the various fly line options. The various tapers and technology to elevate your casting and presentation is impressive.

Just recently I caught a very large brown trout on the South Platte. She bolted right under my feet in a deep cutbank and wouldn’t come out. I took one step to my left to try and escort her out of the cutbank onto a beach area and that was enough to break off my flies. I hope she got free of the red beaded squirmy worm that she so desperately wanted.

Neil:

How Did you Learn To Fly Fish?

I learned to fly fish about 11 years ago. In the beginning I was trying to teach myself and with the help of a few friends I met on the river, eventually made it happen.

What is your favorite species to catch on a fly?

My favorite species to target on the fly is tarpon.

When you aren’t fishing, how do you spend your free time?

When I’m not fishing, I’m usually spending time with my family and tying up new bugs.

If you could hop on a plane and go anywhere in the world to fly fish, where would you go?

If I could fish anywhere, it would most likely be in the Amazon for golden dorado.

What is your favorite product in the Denver store?

My favorite product in Denver is the diverse fly selection.

The fish that still haunts me, is a big steelhead I lost in Idaho some years back.

Cameron:

How Did you Learn To Fly Fish?

I was more or less self-taught. I started fishing when I was three and I can remember seeing people fly fishing on the Arkansas River. Then I gave it a try when I was in high school.

What is your favorite species to catch on a fly?

For me, it’s not as much about the species as it is the destination. I love going to cool places and feeling a fish on the line.

When you aren’t fishing, how do you spend your free time?

With my wife and three kids. I seem to find myself going from sport to sport, and field to field. I enjoy tying bugs and hanging out with friends.

If you could hop on a plane and go anywhere in the world to fly fish, where would you go?

 Seychelles. Has to be.

What is your favorite product in the Denver store?

An Abel SDF fly reel in the Flats Fade design.

The permit of my lifetime in Sian Ka’an Mexico. Haunting.

Jake:

How Did you Learn To Fly Fish?

My dad took me out fishing when I was three or so. Soon after he let me cast his fly rod, and taught me over the coming years. My first fish on the fly was a Brook Trout in RMNP and I was hooked.

What is your favorite species to catch on a fly?

For me, I love fishing for Wiper on the fly. They are aggressive and strong, and when they are eating well it's a blast.

When you aren’t fishing, how do you spend your free time?

When I am not fishing, I am spending time with my girlfriend, tying flies for fishing, looking at maps of fishing spots and generally thinking about fishing.

If you could hop on a plane and go anywhere in the world to fly fish, where would you go?

I would say either the flats of Wessel Islands in Australia or Guyana, South America for the jungle adventure.

What is your favorite product in the Denver store?

The Sonar Titan sinking lines. Shoots so well.

There are a few that keep me up at night. But one that's fresh was a huge slab of a rainbow I lost on the Dream Stream. We spotted him right at dark a few days prior to going back to find him again. I got him to eat a WD-40 and he took for a 5 second ride before breaking me off! Could be the biggest trout I have ever seen in person.
