Our Reviews of the New Swiftcurrent Expedition & Traverse Wader Line from Patagonia

The new wader line from Patagonia has arrived and we are stocked up for spring fishing! We’re excited about these new waders, and the innovation they bring to us and our customers. Patagonia is always pushing the envelope of materials, performance and comfort on the water, while maintaining their ethos to protect our home planet. The new Swiftcurrent Expedition and Traverse Waders have been in the making for 3 years, tested for thousands of hours on the water, and PFAS free.

With men’s and women’s sizes available, our team has already been putting them to the test. After some initial time on the water, check out these reviews from Blake and Rachel:

Blake's Review:

I just spent 10 days fishing in the new Patagonia Swiftcurrent Traverse Zip Waders in Southern Chile and they never let me down.

As I was packing my 49.5-pound checked bag for what would be an epic trip to see our friends at Cinco Rios Lodge in Chile. I was excited to test these new zip-front waders from Patagonia. At $549 and lighter than the Expedition Zips, I was thankful for the weight savings and the price point!

The trip was a perfect mix of walk-wading spring creeks, scrambling over boulders on the local freestones, and hopping in and out of boats to fish the glacial lakes in the area. These waders did it all, at a high level.

The lighter materials moved well on longer walking days, the pocket configurations held gloves, floatant, a fly box, and possibly a flask. And maybe most impressively, as the temperature swings from cold mornings to toasty afternoons, the drop suspender system worked surprisingly well with the front zipper.

On those cold, windy, and rainy mornings, thOn those cold, windy, and rainy mornings, these waders coupled with the Swiftcurrent Wading Jacket provided all the protection I needed for crossing those big lakes on a boat or leaning into a nasty downstream wind casting streamers.

As an angler, and crew member here at Anglers All, I am excited to have these top-notch, feature-rich waders in our line up, and available to our customers, all while being PFAS free.

Rachels' Review:

The first warm spring day in March, I took out the new Patagonia Swiftcurrent Expedition Zip-Front Waders for their first taste of the South Platte! My first impression was how slick they looked coming out of the box. A color refresh to Basin Green was the first noticeable detail.

Then I saw all of the internal and external storage built into the waders and was excited to find what all the waders could hold. I travel pretty light when it comes to my pack, so multiple places to store fly pucks, weights, tippet, and a few beers was very exciting to me.

We still have all of the thoughtful features from the previous version of these top-of-the-line women's waders. Patagonia doesn't skimp! We've got the ever-important knee pads for when I inevitably stumble down the bank. We've got necessary fleece-lined booties and fleece lined hand pockets, for those like me who always have frozen digits. We've got the brilliant drop-down, yet stay-warm relief feature, that ensures I don't have to fully undress just to take a quick break on the river. I also can't forget the new removable waterproof pocket to keep my phone dry (which I could have used last week in an unfortunate incident at work).

Though the features closely follow its predecessor, I can be even more proud to slip into these waders knowing they are PFAS free. Plus, I was able to find my perfect fit knowing Patagonia added even more sizes in the lengths and booties with the new Swiftcurrent Wader Release. I can highly recommend these and the Women’s Traverse Waders to the gals in my circle. Try ‘em out!
