Seeing Purple: The New Rojo Midge and More Fly Tying Tips

When Greg Garcia introduced the Rojo Midge with Umpqua Feather Merchants in 1999, purple was one of the original colors. But was ahead of its time, and the purple variation was discontinued a short time later.

Now 21 years later, the Purple Rojo Midge is back! Anglers have finally caught on to the effectiveness of purple fly patterns. In our latest fly tying video, Greg sits down at the vise to tie one of his new signature flies appearing in the 2020 Umpqua catalog: the Purple Rojo Midge.

The Rojo Midge is our February Fly of the Month and currently on sale. Check out the Rojo Midge here in the new Purple, as well as in Black, Olive and Red.

New Fly Tying Tips

Also new on our YouTube Channel this week, we have a third installment in our recent fly tying tips series. In the first two videos, Greg offered tips on how to tie a consistent parachute post and how to wrap hackle on a parachute post. New this week, Greg has some great tips for applying dubbing.
