What’s In The Bag? Take a Dive Into the Setup of Media Manager, Davis James

This week, we’re revisiting our “What’s in the Bag?” series and we’ll take a dive into the fly fishing setup of our media manager, Davis James.

If you’d like to check out the previous installments, you can go back and watch Andrew Pulford and Jimmy Julianaunpack their fly fishing bags.

This time, Davis walks us through his bags for three different types of fly fishing missions. Whether he’s heading to an alpine lake, on a drift boat, or shooting photo and video content for Anglers All, Davis is prepared.

Check out the video and then scroll down to find links and details on these bags:

Davis gave us a peek into his setups for three different fly fishing situations:

Backcountry Missions:

Go take a look at the Thunderhead Backpack from Fishpond. A local Colorado company, we’re big fans of Fishpond’s quality fishing packs and bags. The Thunderhead Backpack is totally waterproof and it can hold a lot of gear. Paired with a compatible chest pack, like the Thunderhead Chest Pack or Cross-Current Chest Pack, it’s is a versatile setup that can take you a lot of different places.

You might consider this setup if:

·     You fish backcountry waters or locations that require you to pack a lunch, extra clothing or other gear for the destination

·     You regularly pack a camera or other items that absolutely need to stay dry

·     You travel to saltwater or other far-flung destinations where you’ll need a backpack that can hold a lot of gear, and keep it safe and dry throughout the adventure

Photography Missions

Davis is our token bearded media guy here at the fly shop, and he spends a lot of his time on the water capturing great video and images. For these content-focused missions, the Simms G4 Pro Shift Backpack is an outstanding solution. But it’s certainly not photographer-specific. We love the versatility of this bag and the innovative design for anglers.

You might consider this setup if:

·     You like fishing with a waist pack, but you frequently need the capacity of a backpack – this setup seamlessly provides both

·     You frequently carry a camera setup and would like to keep it accessible while you’re on the water

Float Trip Adventures

When Davis finds himself on a raft or a drift boat, he has his boat bag ready. And in the video, he showed us his setup with the new Umpqua ZS2 Waterproof Boat Bag. Another local Colorado company, we are longtime fans of Umpqua’s fishing packs. And the new boat bags are extremely well designed.

You might consider this setup if:

·     You spend many of your fishing days on a drift boat or raft

·     You need a more organized setup to keep fly boxes and other essentials loaded in the back of the truck
