Pro Tip: How to Pair a Fly Line with Your Scott Fly Rod

We recently had the opportunity to visit with our friends at Scott Fly Rods in Montrose, Colorado. In addition to enjoying some great fishing on the Gunnison River, we picked up a few great pro tips along the way.

In a conversation with Jim Bartschi at Scott, we learned a few new things about ideal fly line pairings with Scott fly rods. Check out this quick video and see what Jim has to say on the subject.

In light of Jim's advice on fly lines with a long belly and rear taper, you might consider the Scientific Anglers Anadro Fly Line. This is a very popular line here in the shop. The taper is designed for control and long-distance casting. And this profile makes it a great fit with a Scott rod.

As we look forward to enjoying the holiday season, please note that orders from need to be placed by December 18th in order to arrive on time for Christmas with free shipping.

Whether you’re shopping for yourself, or for the anglers on your holiday list, we’ve got some awesome gift ideas. From our favorite rods and reels, to unique gifts for the angler who has everything, we’ve got you covered. Check out our 2017 Holiday Gift Ideas Page for inspiration.

We’d also like to call out a few items from great local Denver area businesses. First, be sure and check out Fly Trap products, including the Fly Trap Original and the Fly Trap XLT with Tippet Holder. A super practical accessory that any angler can use, these make great stocking items.

We’d also like to draw some attention to the awesome fly rods from SaraBella fishing. Made locally in Denver, these awesome rods are as fun to cast as they are beautiful, designed especially for female anglers. The SaraBella 9’ 5-weight rod is a shop favorite.
