Streamer Talk Videos with Jonathan Walter

We recently spent some time on the river with our friend and casting instructor, Jonathan Walter. Jonathan is a Fly Fishers International Certified Master Casting Instructor. We talked about streamer fishing, and Jonathan had some excellent tips.

In fact, we developed the conversation into a three-part video series on streamer fishing. We’ve released Part 1 and Part 2 on our YouTube Channel. Stay tuned for Part 3 coming soon!

In Part 1 of the Streamer Talk Series, Jonathan tackles some line and leader essentials for easier streamer casting. First, a streamer leader needs to be short and fat. According to Jonathan, the diameter of your leader can be determined by the size of the streamer you’re casting, using the “rule of three”. Check out Streamer Talk Part 1 to learn more:

In Streamer Talk Part 2, we look at a few important casting tips. Jonathan points out that most anglers can improve their streamer casting by slowing down their cast, and opening up their loops.

Have you ever found yourself doing the “chuck and duck” while casting a heavy streamer? If you’ve ever had to duck to get out of the way of your own streamer, Jonathan has some helpful advice. It’s called the Belgian Cast. Take a look at Streamer Talk Part 2:
