Cayo Frances Farm & Fly sits on three acres of land on the northwest side of Ambergris Caye, Belize at the entrance to the Cayo Frances Lagoon system. Much of the property is black soil, an anomaly on an island that’s mainly sand and rock (the result of a lot of people living here about 1,500 years ago - the property is one of the 20-odd known Maya sites on the island.) Due to its location in Belize, fishing can be had 365 days of the year and you will have shots at bonefish, permit, tarpon, and other saltwater species. Chances at a grand slam (bonefish, permit, and tarpon) are not uncommon at Cayo Frances. Based on time of year you will have shots at large migratory tarpon in the 100+ pound range.
Cayo Frances offers a particularly rare saltwater fly fishing lodge experience because of the Do It Yourself and Guided Fishing opportunities. It is one of the only lodges in Belize that makes DIY an affordable option for the angler who wants to trek the flats solo and get into some permit, bonefish, and tarpon. What makes Cayo Frances so unique is that you can add guided fishing days, a la carte. Want to fish for 1 day guided? Yes you can do that. Want to fish for 5 guided days? Yes you can do that. If you are new to saltwater fly fishing and want to fish with a guide for a day or two to learn the ropes and then want to venture on your own that is an option at Cayo Frances. If DIY is not what you are looking for then that is no problem at all. You can book a guide for every single day that will provide premium service at an affordable rate.
If you think Do It Yourself is the low end way to do it and it is not the full experience you are looking for then you could not be further from the truth at Cayo Frances Farm and Fly. Cayo Frances has an exclusive partnership with Bote Boards and you have access to their full fleet of stand up paddle boards and canoes to explore flats and fishing areas. You jump on a boat with your chosen watercraft, a cooler packed with beverages, snacks, and lunch for the day, and the guide will drop you off at known productive fishing areas for the day for you to explore. It takes the DIY route to an entirely different level of fun and the ability to truly explore a fishery.
The lodge was built to be farm to table with an emphasis on using locally sourced food products. It is in the lodge's DNA to produce high quality meals that are suitable for every guest that walks through the door. The palapa bar located on site is stocked with cold Belikins and Coke products that are available on a self serve basis and operates on the honor system. At the end of each day guests can gather around a campfire and tell the tales of their fishing for that day. It offers anglers a welcoming and comfortable environment to relax after a long day of flats fishing.
Cayo Frances Farm and Fly is a simple flight away between you and a fly fishing playground and oasis. From Denver, you fly into Belize City International Airport (BZE) and then you will take a domestic flight, roughly 25 minutes, to San Pedro (John Greiff II Airport). Upon arrival you will be greeted by a representative from Cayo Frances where you will take a short 20 minute boat ride to the lodge and your home for your stay.
