Littleton Colorado Fly Fishing and Fly Tying Classes

This isn’t your typical classroom.

For many of us fly fishing is a lifelong journey. There’s always more to techniques to learn, flies to try more water to explore. Whether you’ve never picked up a fly rod, or you are a longtime veteran of the sport, we have classes to help you improve as an angler.

Our classes range widely, from our Fly Fishing 101 class, offering an in depth introduction into the sport all the way to our advanced fly tying class, Fly Tying 201. With other courses including bug life identification in our Entomology Class, frequent casting classes covering everything from distance and accuracy to two handed spey and double haul techniques, we are here and very excited to pass on our knowledge to you and opportunity to connect you with industry professionals and instructors.

  1. Fly Tying 201

    Fly Tying 201 - Afternoon Session

    $150.00
    Date: Saturdays March 17th, 24th and 31st
    Time: 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    Instructor: Greg Garcia
    Location: Anglers All Store
    This is the ideal class for learning to tie dry flies. In this class, you will learn tricks and techniques to tie the most challenging patterns. We will cover hair wings for Comparaduns, Caddis and Stimulators, feather wings to tie quill bodies and traditional dries. We will also learn how to tie calf wings for H&L Variants, and Wulff wings.

    The Fly Tying 101 Class is highly recommended before taking this class, as we will build upon the principles learned there. This class is held on three consecutive Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

  2. Simon Gawesworth Spey Class

    Time: 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    The class will start with a brief overview of key terminology and principles as well as the different styles of spey casting (Skagit, Traditional and Scandinavian). After the talk the class moves out (to the river) to check on the basic casts and their foundation that each angler/caster has. The basic casts are the forward stroke, Roll cast, Snap T and Double Spey cast (with both right hand and left hand up). A break for lunch will be taken around 12.30 and, after lunch, the class will head back to the river to work any of the following options (depending on requirements, time available and ability):

    1. Consolidate the basic casts
    2. Learn alternative casts (Single Spey, Switch cast Snake Roll, Perry Poke, Wombat, etc.)
    3. Work with sinking tips and heads
    4. Work with long belly lines to really hone the technique
    5. Work with single handed rods
    6. Casting Games
    7. Honing in the perfect line/rod combination for given situations and skills

     

    The object of this class is to ensure that the ‘students’ have a complete understanding of the mechanics of spey casting, as well as the ability to perform a range of spey casts to a competent level for any situation.

    Finally, if any client has access to a camcorder it may well be worth bringing it along - if time permits, the instructor will film a comparison between the students style and the instructor’s.

    There is no prior experience needed. Our instructor, Doug Andrews, will demonstrate the skills and information needed to pick up this wonderful sport. Our goal is that each new angler will be self-sufficient on the water by the very next day.
