DESTINATION: GUNNISON GORGE, COLORADO

The Black Canyon. A Multi Day Camp / Float Fishing Trip.

Quick Details

  • Location: Black Canyon of the Gunnison River, Colorado
  • Season: June to October
  • Species: Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout.
  • Airport / Logistics: From Denver you have an approximate 4 hour drive to Pleasure Park. You will want to stay the night in either Delta or Hotchkiss the night before. You meet at Pleasure Park the morning of your departure where you will be shuttled to the Chukkar Trail Trailhead. You will then hike roughly 1 mile down a moderately hard hike down to your boats.

The famed Gunnison Gorge is a destination that should be on every trout angler’s short list. The awe-inspiring views, low-pressure fishery, and world class angling opportunities throughout this section of the famed Gunnison River will have any angler anticipating their return trip, if not making it an annual adventure! We feel very fortunate to have such a fishery essentially right in our own backyard.

Throughout the season the conditions are ever changing through this isolated fishery, June, being best known for its famed Salmon Fly hatch, then transitioning into some of our favorite months, July thru September. These months provide historically consistent flows and reliable hatches of big terrestrials as well as a variety of mayflies. As the season turns to fall in late September and into early October, capitalizing on aggressive Browns with articulated streamers is without a doubt nothing to miss!

The Gorge is one of the most Colorado floats, with the Gunnison River never leaving the state lines of Colorado we are excited to call this our own, and home water.
