DESTINATION: SET FLY FISHING, ARGENTINA

SET Fly Fishing is a group of lodges throughout Argentina that can meet the needs for every type of angler. One thing that almost everyone who has been to Argentina and booked with SET can agree on is that you do not meet a more welcoming, friendly, and family-like group of people in the world. SET Fly Fishing has created a program that includes world class fishing and staff all while incorporating and embracing the culture of Argentina.

SET Fly Fishing is based around two different programs depending on the type of fish you are after - the Dorado Program or Trout Program. You will experience the same level of expertise and world class customer service with each program but they are completely unique. We will discuss the differences between the programs and what to expect

GOLDEN DORADO

The Golden Dorado Program is designed just as the name suggests - targeting big and wild golden dorado in some of the most beautiful environments you can imagine. Golden dorado are known for their vicious takes and predatorial instincts that make catching them on the fly one of the most exhilarating experiences you can dream of. You will not forget the take of an apex predator destroying your fly.

SET Fly Fishing manages three golden dorado lodges in Argentina that will fit the needs of every type of angler. The Golden Dorado experience allows you to fish two or even three of these lodges during your stay with SET. Each lodge has its own characteristics that make it unique and the ability to fish multiple lodges in one trip is a rare program. The most common program is to do 7 nights, 6 days of fishing and you fish two of the three lodges. You can extend your trip and fish all three as well!

  1. Jetu’u Lodge - when fishing Jetu’u Lodge you are the angler looking for Action. You fish marsh habitats and the middle section of the Parana River for a lot of action. Here you will find a lot of fish but some of the trophy dorado will require more searching.
  2. Alondra’i Lodge - this is for the angler looking for a Wild experience. You will be targeting golden dorado in the Ibera Wetlands where you will find more wildlife viewing and is a little more remote.
  3. Itati Lodge - this is for the angler looking for the Trophy fish. You may not find as many fish at this lodge but you fish the upper Parana River where you have a higher chance of catching a +30 pounder.

Trout Program

The Northern Patagonia region is the most prolific dry fly fishing district in the world. The diversity of water to fish could keep an angler occupied for a lifetime. You have the opportunity to fish larger rivers, spring creeks, and pristine mountain lakes depending on the experience you are looking for. You can add float trips, deluxe camps, and even helicopter operations making this a truly customizable experience. Here are the lodges that SET Fly Fishing manages.

  1. Spring Creek Lodge: The main characteristic of the area is the variety. This applies to the variety of water available in less than one hour drive from the lodge for day floats, multi day floats on longer sections, walk and wade on the smaller rivers and streams and the glacier lakes for stillwater fishing. It also applies to the amount of non-fishing activities available for those looking to take a break from fishing, and do an alternative program.
  2. Limay Medio Week Float: The Limay Medio River is a tail water river of very large size. Starting as a drain from the bottom of the upstream reservoir with a 700 feet dam wall; it provides very stable water temperature and gin clear water that create an ideal environment for fish populations.
  3. Casa De Campo Lodge: Two hours drive north from Junin de los Andes area, lays the Pehuenia district. This area hides several medium size streams and spring creeks, an ideal setting for our Trout Hunt program. You will target specific fish with your guide, planning a strategy to approach them. You can add a two day float trip to your stay while enjoying a deluxe camp.
  4. Rakin Lodge: We are thrilled to introduce Rakin Lodge, situated on a 30,000-acre ranch that holds the pristine waters of the Codihue River. This addition to our portfolio is truly a paradise for dry fly anglers. The river boasts a superb willow inchworm hatch and an incredible hopper season, making it a dream destination for those who love fly fishing.
  5. Chocoy Mallin Lodge - Helicopter Operation: The best kept secret among Patagonia fly fishing destinations. Untouched and pristine rivers continue to be “off the radar” for locals and international anglers. After years exploring the region we were able to develop an expertise on the area and learned that simplifying access to the best fishing spots was key to the success of this program. Focusing on accessibility challenges, we have added a modern Bell 407 to the operation along with their team of expert pilots. We are now able to offer this amazing heli-fishing program.
